The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has organised a day’s training workshop on effective reporting of the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) using the National Anti-Corruption Reporting Dashboard (NaCoRD) tool.
The workshop was aimed at addressing the challenges as well as limitation of focal persons in reporting effectively on activities of NACAP at the district level using the NaCoRD tool to help in the fight against corruption.
The workshop with funding support from the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ARAP), an anti-corruption body is aimed at strengthening the capacity of NACAP focal persons to help in the fight against corruption.
The workshop was attended by 26 focal persons of NACAP at various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) within the Northern Region.
The NaCoRD is an online tool that facilitates reports on the implementations of activities of NACAP by focal persons, while NACAP programme is a 10-year strategic plan focusing on the causes, effects and measures to control corruption and outlines measures for strengthening key anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies in the country.
Mr Charles Ayamdoo, the Director, Anti-Corruption at CHRAJ speaking at the workshop in Tamale underscored the need to ensure effective implementation of NACAP at the district level through an effective monitoring and tracking process.
He said a tool to facilitate such monitoring and tracking process was through the NaCoRD, saying, “There is the need to build the capacity of focal persons at the district level to ensure an inclusive implementation of NACAP activities in plans of MMDAs”.
Mr Ayamdoo said as part of the activities under NACAP, decentralisation at the district level serves as a vital tool in fighting against corruption, which the workshop intends to strengthen the capacity of NACAP focal persons.
He said, “Once we are now going deeper into decentralisation process, it is necessary to strengthen the capacity of NACAP focal persons at the various District Assemblies”.
Mr Osman Yakubu, Northern Regional Deputy Director, Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) urged participants to take the workshop seriously to ensure an effective implementation of the 2018/2019 NACAP programme to yield positive results.
Mr Charles Akurugu, Assistant Director of Administration, Kumbungu District Assembly said the workshop has created a simple understanding of the processes and the procedures of activities to undertake and effectively implementing the NACAP action plan.
He explained that, reporting accurately on the activities of NACAP served as a means of verifying activities undertaken at the implementation level at the various districts to ensure the effective implementations in fighting corruption.
Mr Alhassan Asimiwu, Development Planner, Tatali/Sanguli District Assembly underscored the need for the involvement of the MMDAs and the Regional Coordinating Directors on a similar sensitisation workshop for an effective implementation.
