Mr. Benjamin Barfo-Bonney, a Commission Member of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), serves as a Deputy Commissioner who was appointed on December 11, 2024. He brings a wealth of wisdom in contributing to the oversight and strategic direction of the Commission as regards the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights of all persons living in Ghana, administrative justice, and good governance.
Before his appointment, Mr. Barfo-Bonney worked as a Corporate Manager at the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), where he oversaw governance and operations within state institutions. He also served as the Head of the Legal Department at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), providing legal support and advice for municipal administration and development.
Mr. Barfo-Bonney’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy from the University of Ghana, a postgraduate Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Public International Law from City, University of London. He also holds a Master of Science (MSc) in International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
Throughout his 14-year legal career, Mr. Barfo-Bonney has established himself as a highly skilled lawyer, integrating international exposure with local expertise.
He was called to the English Bar by the Honorable Society of the Inner Temple in 2010 and to the Ghanaian Bar in 2011, achieving dual qualifications and legal proficiency across jurisdictions.
In addition to his work in law and governance, Mr. Barfo-Bonney has lectured at several educational institutions, including Commonwealth College in London, Zenith University College, MountCrest University College, Central University, and the University of Ghana, where he has mentored and inspired many students through teaching and sharing his expertise in law.
